These are very small details from the latest surface design pattern I’m working on. It’s the first in a series about microscopic images that I’m hoping to develop further. More on this later, when I’ve decided which colorways to use (probably all of them!)
I only do fan art once in a while— I’ve always wanted to draw the Candyland characters, so hopefully I can find time for all of them!

Surface pattern design is one of my favorite branches of illustration. Above is a simplified example of how I create a repeating pattern. I always start out by sketching- these skulls were a warmup study. I did not intend to create a pattern from them at first, but they looked like they might work well that way.
A couple of examples of my pattern in action:
I always wanted to do one of those #MeetTheArtist dealies! As you can see, it took a lot longer to describe the things I don’t like, and I was upset over not being able to fit more dislike into the trash can. On the flip side, simple pleasures are usually the best ones, so it was easier to fit in more of them.
